Richard Levine at Caffe Lena

Medic first met Richard through our mutual friend, the late actor, poet, short story writer and editor George Dickerson. On 7 July 2021 Richard, an award winning poet, read at Caffe Lena in Saratoga, New York. He’s obviously in a good mood, and gives a master class in how to read great poetry with a steady light touch. His self-effacement and sensitivity are humbling. The occasional self-jokes are icing on the cake. Richard served with 3rd Tanks, 3rd Marines, Vietnam ’67-’68.

As Richard notes, Caffe Lena’s is the oldest folk music club in America, opening in 1960 and featuring many folk legends, including Mississippi John Hurt, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Emmy Lou Harris, among others.
